About Leeds Tree Surgeon: How We Work and What to Ask a Contractor
Get a quoteLeeds Tree Surgeon helps homeowners, landlords and businesses work out what a tree actually needs, then sets that work out clearly in writing.
We don't see removing a healthy tree as the first answer to every problem, so we start by looking at the tree, the site and the result you want.
- Written scope of work
- Tree protection checked before cutting
- Waste and stump work made clear
How We Approach Tree Work
Assess before cutting
Height alone doesn't make a tree unsafe, and a single photograph rarely settles a decision, so our advice is based on the species, its condition and what lies beneath it.
Keep to a clear scope
You should know exactly what you're paying for before a date is agreed, including the method, access, waste and any stump work.
Check protection first
We look at TPO status, conservation area rules and wildlife before any work is booked, so that nothing comes to light once cutting has started.
Put safety first
Damaged and windblown trees can behave unpredictably, so nobody should stand beneath a hanging limb to take a photograph or measure a tree.
Qualifications and Insurance to Ask For
Whoever you choose, ask to see the relevant paperwork before you book. That goes for us too, so please ask us the same questions.
- Chainsaw and climbing qualifications. City & Guilds NPTC and Lantra certificates are held by individuals, so ask about the people doing the work.
- Public liability insurance. Ask for the level of cover and check that it is current.
- Working standards. BS 3998 is the British Standard recommendation for tree work, so ask whether the contractor follows it.
- Written method and scope. The quotation should describe the work clearly.
- Permission checks. A contractor should know how to check TPO and conservation area status.
The Arboricultural Association is a useful independent source of guidance on choosing a contractor.
Who We Help
Homeowners may want help with overhanging branches, damaged trees or blocked light. Landlords and managing agents may also need records of tree inspections or planned maintenance. Schools, businesses and managed estates can involve extra access controls and public safety arrangements, so tell us what kind of site it is when you get in touch.
