Get a quote

We provide tree removal in Leeds, from simple felling to taking a tree down piece by piece in a tight garden. The site decides which method we use.

Before we quote, we look at where the tree stands, how we'd reach it and what lies beneath it. You then get a written scope covering the method, the clearing up and whether the stump is included.

  • Written scope of work
  • Tree protection checked before cutting
  • Waste and stump work made clear

Professional tree felling and removal in Leeds

A tree in open ground can be simple to bring down, while one surrounded by buildings and fences needs far more control.

Felling a healthy tree is never our automatic answer, though. If the only problem is branches on a roof or over next door, we'll tell you when pruning or crown reduction could solve it with less disruption.

The tree felling and removal work we carry out

Our first question on any removal is whether the tree has a clear, safe place to land.

Felling in one piece

Where there's room, we plan the direction of fall around the tree's condition, the slope, the wind and the ground. A safe working and exclusion zone goes in place before any cutting starts. As the HSE guidance on chainsaws makes clear, this is specialist work and never a job for an untrained homeowner.

Dismantling in sections

In most built-up gardens, fences, extensions, sheds or roads rule out straight felling. There, we take the crown and stem down in a controlled sequence, dropping some pieces into a clear space and lowering others, and we only choose the equipment after seeing your site.

Dead, dying and badly damaged trees

Where a tree has serious decay, major decline or structural damage and keeping it isn't practical, we can remove it. If you've noticed warning signs, our dangerous and dead trees assessment may be the better place to start.

Trees too close to buildings and boundaries

If the main stem, roots or whole canopy cause a lasting problem, removal can be sensible once we've looked at the alternatives.

Trees in small back gardens

Limited access tends to change our approach more than it rules a job out. Leeds terraces can have a narrow passage, steps or shared gates, so we plan the route out as carefully as the cutting.

Tree removal for homes, landlords and businesses

Homeowners, landlords and businesses each get their own written scope. We note conservatories, fragile paving and neighbouring garden structures at the planning stage, so the sequence of work keeps timber well away from them.

If the tree stands on a boundary, or we'd need access through next door, we'll raise it early. Owning a tree gives nobody the right to enter another property, so we'd need your neighbour's agreement first.

When should you arrange to have a tree removed?

Get in touch when a tree has serious structural damage, extensive decay or major decline, or when it causes a problem pruning can't reasonably manage. A bare winter crown, seasonal leaf loss or a natural lean isn't a reason to take a tree down on its own.

A tree that has fallen or looks ready to fall is a different matter. Keep well away, because split stems, hanging limbs and root plates can all shift without warning, and never cut or pull damaged timber. Call 999 if there is danger to life, and 105 for the electricity network if power lines are involved. For anything else, go to our emergency tree work page, tell us it's urgent and we'll let you know what we can do and when.

Can you fell a tree with a TPO or in a conservation area?

Usually you can, but only after the right consent or notice, so we check for a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) and conservation area status before any felling is booked. TPO work generally needs council consent, and the council aims to decide valid applications in about eight weeks. Our TPO applications service can help you with that.

Conservation area trees over 75 mm in stem diameter at 1.5 metres above ground need a section 211 notice at least six weeks before work starts. Being dead or unsafe doesn't automatically exempt a tree either, and certain work on dead or dangerous protected trees needs five working days' written notice.

How we take a tree down, step by step

Assessing the tree and the site

We look at the species, what stands underneath, the defects and whether keeping the tree is practical. Active bird nests are protected, as are bats and their roosts, so we look for both and change the timing or method if we find them.

Safe felling, timber and waste

On the day, we agree a working area and keep people and pets out of it until we've finished. A single tree can produce far more material than most people expect, so your scope sets out who chips the branches, whether timber goes or stays, and how we leave the area.

Felling deals with the tree above ground, so the stump stays unless the scope says otherwise, and we can quote for stump grinding alongside the removal. If you plan to turf, pave, replant or build on the spot, tell us early, because depth, buried services and remaining roots all affect what's possible.

Why choose us to remove your tree?

You'll know exactly how your tree will come down before anyone starts, because the method is written into your scope. Protection and wildlife checks come before any cutting, and if pruning would do the job we'll tell you, even though that means a smaller booking.

How much does tree removal cost in Leeds?

The cost depends on the tree's size, the condition of the wood and how close it stands to buildings or services. Access and the amount of timber to move matter too, so a small tree among fragile structures can take more work than a larger one in the open.

Your quote shows whether the stump, the waste and any application or survey costs are covered. Our tree surgeon prices page goes through these factors in more detail.

A few details are enough for us to tell you how we'd approach the job. Please use the form on this page to send:

  • Your postcode and a short description of the tree and the problem.
  • Any known TPO, conservation area or neighbour access issues.
  • What should happen to the timber: taken away, left on site or cut into logs.
  • If you'd like the stump ground out as well.

After that, email your photos to [email protected]. Take them from a safe position on the ground, showing the full tree, nearby obstacles and the way in, and give us the opening width and any steps. We'll then explain the next step towards a written quote.
